Request for Expression of Interest to acquire exclusive rights to develop, manufacture and sell product(s) based on Design Patent (Pending) # US 29 / 257, 498 & Utility Patent Pending US 11/716791 - Adjustable Heimlich Maneuver Device.
The described device has broad potential application in most food service settings including school cafeterias, restaurants, and commercial transportation and in non-commercial settings including the home. The proposed device offers specific potential advantages over the classic manual Heimlich maneuver technique including:
- Ease of use with minimal training,
- Reduced risk of victim injury,
- Reduced limitations for smaller or weaker users, and
The Heimlich maneuver is a demonstrated life saving technique for choking victims. Proper application is not difficult but should be taught to prospective users to ensure effectiveness and to prevent injuries to choking victims.
This device can further simplify application of the Heimlich maneuver. The device would reduce the risks of applying pressure to the wrong area, and of applying excessive force. In addition, it would enable users who are relatively smaller to apply adequate pressure using a broader range of movement. This could benefit younger or older users, and those assisting larger choking victims. The design provides for the combination of pressure and upward rotation that is required to effectively and reliably apply the Heimlich maneuver.
The breadth of the potential market and the expected product advantages represent a significant commercial opportunity.
